This gallery contains the images I have converted from color originals into Black and White versions.
While I had played with Photoshop's tools for creating Black and White images from color originals,
I wasn't that happy with the reults.
I find that Lightroom's grayscale conversion functions give me the tools to make creating Black and Whites a lot easier and more in tune with how I want the finished image to appear.
I also like doing the conversions in Lightroom rather than through printer drivers or other techniques, so I can achieve the image I want when it is printed on different printers.
I am also more likely to make a black and white print from an image since today's advanced inkjet printers and
new papers can produce such stunning prints.
My current favorite combination is the Harman Gloss FB paper,
and I'm also fond of Ilford's Gold Silk Fiber and Epson's Exhibition Fiber for black and white prints.
While Lightroom makes it easy to convert a color original into a Black and White copy,
I am pretty choosy when deciding which image to convert.
I need to see something special in the image's tone, contrast and patterns.
Sometimes I make black and whites to allow the viewer to see the texture and patterns that might otherwise be lost in a colorful flower or other subject
where the colors are a dominant component.
I will try to start adding my reasoning for specific conversions to the notes attached to the images.
You can see those notes, if they exist, when looking at the images in the image viewer pages.
